The design.
A mobile sauna asks a hard question: how do you build something transportable that still reads as architecture, not a unit on a trailer? The answer here was to resolve it as a single, considered volume — proportion, material and detail held to the same standard as a fixed build.
Form
A clean rectilinear volume, capped by a weathering-steel roof whose hard industrial edge is set against the warmth of timber. A single curved door softens the box — a sculptural threshold that marks the entrance and breaks the orthogonal geometry.
Material
Western red cedar shingles clad the walls, laid to catch the light and left to weather naturally toward silver over time. The weathering steel forms a protective, patinating cap. The palette is chosen to age well outdoors — to earn its character, not to look new for a single season.
Light
A large picture window draws the garden inside and lets low sun rake across the interior, framing the space to its setting. Inside, cedar lining carries the heat and the scent.
Heat & mobility
A wood-fired stove gives traditional, off-grid-capable heat — well matched to a structure that can be sited away from services. Engineered for transport without conceding proportion or thermal performance: delivered whole, and resolved as architecture on arrival.
